2019-01-30 - NUVO - Statehouse Rob

On Jan. 30, 2019, a cartoon version of me drawn by my former colleague, Mercer Suppiger, served as the cover story of NUVO. Inside the issue, in my capacity as News Editor, I rounded up some of the most important bills in front of legislators at the Indiana Statehouse at the start of the 2019 legislative session in a series of stories:

2019-01-30 – State House Rob! With News Editor Rob Burgess [Page 5, print only]
2019-01-30 - Statehouse Update: Hate Crimes [Page: 5]
Indiana—along with South Carolina, Arkansas, Wyoming, and Georgia—is currently one of only five states in the country without a hate crimes law on the books.
2019-01-30 - Statehouse Update: Teacher Pay [Page: 9]
Everyone agrees Indiana's teachers need to be paid more, but there is little agreement about how to make that happen.
2019-01-30 - Statehouse Update: Redistricting [Page: 7]
The United States Census is conducted once per decade, and the results have enormous consequences for voters in Indiana.
2019-01-30 - Statehouse Update: Cannabis Legislation [Page: 6]
Activists for medical and recreational cannabis in Indiana had been hoping 2019 would be a big year, but so far, it's a political non-starter.

NUVO - Rob Burgess Weekly News Newsletter

In my capacity as NUVO News Editor, I have been writing a weekly newsletter which reaches around 3,700 subscribers' inboxes each Wednesday since Jan. 30, 2019. The newsletter has an approximately 25 percent open rate. Before I took it over, the NUVO newsletter was formerly known as "Slash," but now just goes by "News." We have used both Constant Contact and Mailchimp.

In it, I describe what I've been working on during the week, how readers have been involved in my storytelling, what readers are saying in response, what I need help with going forward, what I've been following in the news, links to relevant stories, and more.

I have downloaded these newsletters as PDFs and uploaded them in one folder. It is current as of May 17, 2019.
